General Notes on Civil Ceremony in This Area

Mayors in most of Italy (almost all of it)  will NOT do outdoor ceremonies.

HOWEVER, at our request years ago, the mayors in this region have agreed to re-structure the wedding procedure.   They have split the  procedure into two parts.   In most of our towns (but not all), the first part is at the town-hall and is very legalistic (and actually boring) and very short.  It is attended by the mayor, the bride & groom, two witnesses (who are typically locals known to the mayor – recently some mayors have allowed friends, but not family,  to be witnesses, but this would be your choice).  This first part requires the taking and the signing of the  oath.    Rings and kisses are NOT exchanged in the town-hall. Dress is casual.

The second part is at the venue (e.g., Hotel villa delle Meraviglie).  This is stripped of most of the boring legalese, and is quite endearing.  Rings ARE exchanged.  Wedding dresses are worn, the officiant is there,  all the guests are there.

This divided process was designed this way to:

  •      Conform rigorously to the marriage laws of Italy.
  • ·   To make the entire focus of the wedding to be on an authentic and memorable outdoor wedding ceremony for the bride & groom with the mayor and all guests.

We also have one mayor that will conduct the outdoor ceremony first, and then escort the couple back to the town-hall for the signing of the paperwork.  There is NO second town-hall process.

The "No Hassle" 2 hour Approval  for Wedding in Italy  -

Citizens of countries such as US and Canada can get an expedited approval for a civil or non-catholic religious wedding.

Cost -  additional 750 euros

What is This Approval?

There is one jurisdiction in this region that make it exceptionally simple for American citizens to get approval to get married in Italy.  Slow Dreams will obtain the approval from the local jurisdiction  for you.   You must obtain approval from the American consulate in Naples and have this approval authenticated by a nearby Italian document authentication office.

THE TOTAL TIME FOR THIS IS AROUND TWO HOURS.

What is the TOTAL Process?

Simply come to the American consulate in Naples with your passports and original divorce papers (if any).  Two hours later you will be eligible to get married.

Who Should Consider This "No-Hassle" Approval?

This package is suited for American citizens that  want one or more of the following:

  • A  complete "no-hassle" wedding approval

  • A last minute wedding in Italy (we need at least one week's notice, depending on availability of mayor, vendors, etc.).

  • Either or both of the couple have been divorced -  the translation of divorce documents can be expensive

  • Either of the couple lives far from the nearest Italian consulate  -  the travel costs of the couple and witnesses can be quite expensive, especially in time.

Ceremonies can be civil or non-Catholic religious.  They can be at the town hall or in one of the three beautiful outdoor venues - see below.  Or, it can be held At the foot of the castle turrets.  See Castle.. It is also idea for couples on tours of Italy that want to break off their tour and get married quickly and resume their tour.

  • Expedited Paperwork - One jurisdiction (one hour south of Naples) that we deal with requires only a Nulla Osta from the Bride & the Groom.  This must be obtained from the American Consulate in Naples  and authenticated by the Italian government office (Prefettura) in Naples, Monday, Wednesday OR Thursday.  The Prefettura office closes at 12:00 noon.   The average time to get the Nulla Ostas and have them authenticated is around 2 hours.  NOTE:  Appointments MUST be made ahead of time for both the Bride & Groom at the American Consulate in Naples.. Try to make your appointment for 8 a.m. These need to be done Monday,  Wednesday or Thursday (except holidays).  See no-hassle-approval page for fees for the consulate and costs for stamps.

  • The issuance of the Nulla Ostas requires that the couple appear at the consulate with passports and divorce papers (if any).

  • This "No-Hassle" process eliminates the additional requirement of an Atto Notorio from the Italian consulate in the US.   This can be a very  time-consuming process,  and expensive if a previous divorce is involved.

  • The mayor or minister will conduct, respectively,  outdoor civil or religious weddings at:

    note:  three night minimum stays

  • Services include:

    • Expedited Approval

    • Officiant (Mayor or Minister) to perform the ceremony

    • Transport for Officiant to get to site

    • Translator

    • Local Italian Witnesses

    • All taxes

    • Slow Dreams Event Manager to greet you at your accommodations, and escort you until the ceremony is over

    • A guide in Naples (optional, but strongly recommended) that will :

    • meet you at your hotel

    • take you to the nearby government office (Prefettura) to get your Nulla Ostas authenticated.  Note:  this office does not speak English

    • take you to the train station in Naples so you can catch a train to  the venue
