Palazzo Crova Nizza Monferrato
Nizza Monferrato is located in the heart of Monferrato, in the Belbo torrent valley. The territory covers an area of 30.36 km², mostly hilly, surrounded by the hills of High Monferrato. It is unusual to note that the city, in the most ancient part, is triangular with districts all in a straight line.
Nizza and its fine Barbera wine have been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 22 June 2014. The date of the foundation of Nizza Monferrato is commonly indicated in the year 1225.
The historic center of the town, crossed by the narrow and arcaded Via Maestra with its typical shops and Palazzo Crova, a beautiful example of an 18th century noble town residence, which houses the multimedia museum Palazzo del Gusto dedicated to local history from the point of view of food and wine.
It was presumably built on the remains of a pre-existing castle. Enclosed between narrow streets, an example of an 18th century noble residence, a beautiful building, the work of the architect Nicolis di Robilant and a garden enclosed in high walls. Inside some rooms (in what is now called "piano nobile") have decorations, stuccos and frescoes, with stone stairways equipped with railings decorated to connect the three floors. In another room on the ground floor, the coffered wooden ceilings have been preserved. Outside, on the north side of the building, you can see curious friezes with vegetal and anthropomorphic representations, of much more archaic inspiration, to separate the floors from each other, and to surround the windows. The east front constitutes the real facade, divided into a lower band of porticoes with ten pillars, and an upper one, in which windows framed by pilasters of style similar to the Corinthian alternate, and surmounted by gables and lunettes. The descendants of the Barons Crova di Vaglio, the original owners of the building, remained alive until the first decades of the last century.
Today the building is used for weddings and many other events.
