Battistero di San Pietro
One of the finest and most historic sites - church, cloisters, museum - in the the town of Asti in the Piedmont. One of the few historical sites in Italy where legal and symbolic ceremonies can be held. Also unusual for legal wedding venues it can host catered receptions
The St. Peter's Complex in Consavia set on Corso Alfieri and is one of the most significant
monuments of Asti. The church, in late Romanesque Piedmont style, dates from the middle of the fifteenth century and has a nice outside terracotta frieze, taken around the windows. Inside, a marble bas-relief of the fourteenth century has been adapted to the altar. From the church leads to the Baptistery, which because of its octagonal shape is called "La Rotonda". Probably built on the remains of a small Roman temple, the baptistery is the oldest monument in the city. Inside, the dome rests on a ride of eight columns with cubic capitals. At the center, there is a beautiful baptismal font of the sixteenth century. In the cloister of the complex there is the Archaeological and Paleontological Museum.
