Type of Ceremonies:
Legal civil ceremonies can take place at one of the 3 places below:
In the town hall of Monteriggioni Capacity: ONLY B&G and 2 witnesses with translator and wedding planners. 2 chairs are included. (this is 5 minutes away - about 5 kilometers) Note: This type of ceremony would be done when you are also having a religious blessing or a symbolic non religious ceremony with family & friends on the grounds at Castel Petraia
Abbadia Isola (a medieval Abbey along the via Francigena)
chairs included (this is about 5 minutes - about 2.5 kilometers)
The Abbey of San Galgano (picturesque ruins of an ancient 13th century abbey) Capacity: up to 200 people but they only provide 60 chairs + a wood table for rings, bride's bouquet, etc. (this is about 30 minutes away - about 30 kilometers).
Blessings/Symbolic are ceremonies without legal or civil restrictions, and therefore are performed by a Master of Ceremonies, rather than a clergyman or state official. The ceremony suits couples who have already had a civil or church ceremony, but is also perfect for those who wish to renew their wedding vows for an anniversary. Your blessing can be celebrated in various locations on the grounds.
In the gardens overlooking the hills the grounds can be used for spectacular outdoor ceremonies with views over the Tuscan hills. Capacity: 80 max (white chairs) Plan B - in the event of bad weather, your ceremony & reception will be in the dining room area.
Protestant ceremony without legal effects with English Speaking Minister (Church of England/CofE) Note: This can take place at the Protestant Church in Siena or on the grounds of Relais Castelbigozzi. In this case, you must do the legal civil wedding at the Town Hall prior to the religious ceremony. This can possibly be done in the morning of the same day as the religious ceremony or day(s) before. The church in Siena is a 45 min drive - about 40 kilometers.
Jewish ceremonies can take place at Castello Petraia
Catholic weddings can take place in one of the churches in Abbadia Isola (this historical Borgo is part of commune di Monteriggioni). The churches are all about a 5 minute drive - within 5 km away.
