Notes

  • 7 night minimum stay (Saturday to Saturday)
  • All 11 houses at Montestigliano's estate must be booked in order to hold a wedding.
  • The 11 houses sleeps up to 63 people - Note: all self-catering
  • The Houses/Apartments date back to the 18th century. They are typical buildings of Tuscan countryside which have been carefully restored, retaining many of the original features common to Tuscan architecture. The houses are simple, no two apartments are alike, each has its own charm and character. They have been tastefully furnished and decorated and are self-contained and fully equipped. All houses have central heating. There is no air-conditioning, there is no need, the apartments and villas are very cool in the summer. There are no TVs in rooms, they have WI-FI.
  • Note: In Addition to these 11 houses, there is also a separate Villa (self catering) within the estate that is about 1 km. away called Villa Pipistrelli which sleeps up to 14 persons.  Note: This Villa does not have to be booked along with the 11 houses in order to have a wedding on the grounds.  See below for pricing.


 

1. Villa Donati (sleeps 14 - approx. 320mq.)
With its generous proportions and fine architectural features, the house still gives a feeling of nobility being furnished with many fine pieces of antique furniture and decorations. The Villa, or Fattoria as it is know in Italian, was the principal house on the estate, built in the 18th century by the well known noble Roman family Aldobrandini, who purchased the land from the abbey of Torri (a small medieval village 2 km from Montestigliano, where the abbey still stands which can be visited). With its generous proportions and fine architectural features the house still gives a feeling of nobility being furnished with many fine pieces of antique furniture and decorations. Ground floor, large entrance hall (with rear door into garden), dining room, lunge, kitchen with large open fireplace fully equipped with also a dishwasher, bathroom with shower; 2 single bedrooms. A stone staircase leads to a half landing with a twin bedroom; bathroom with shower, continuing up to the first floor opening to large living room/reception room with working fire place, 2 double bedrooms (with wash basins); 2 twin bedrooms. Second floor: half bathroom; bathroom with bathtub. The backdoor opens into a large garden filled with fruit trees and vines and glorious views of the woodlands.

2. Casa Luisa (sleeps 10 - approx. 175mq.)
A traditional Tuscan "Casa Colonica" with a loggia which enjoys spectacular sunsets and peaceful views of the woodlands. Maybe one of the finest example of a traditional Tuscan "Casa Colonica" with all the traditional characteristics; an open arched balcony, an external covered staircase leads to a furnished loggia facing west which enjoys spectacular sunsets and peaceful views of the woodlands. There is also a partly covered terrace to the rear, which faces east overlooking the surrounding countryside, the skyline of Siena and the Chianti hills in the distance, where you can enjoy the sun, dine under the pergola or barbeque. This is our most recent conversion A large open plan kitchen with original hearth, dining and living room; 3 twin bedrooms; 2 double bedrooms; 4 bathrooms (2 with bathtub, 2 with shower).

3. Casa Virginia 1 (sleeps 4 - approx. 80mq.)
The house faces south overlooking the olive groves and cypress avenues and basks in the late afternoon sun... perfect for cocktails! One of two apartment situated in one of the former farm worker's house which still retains its rural simplicity with white washed walls and terracotta floors. Accommodations as are common with most Tuscan farmhouses are located on the upper floor, as the lower areas were used as storeroom, animal sties, and wine cantina's, are situated on the ground floor. Access gained by external step leading to a narrow covered balcony furnished with wicker furniture. The house faces south overlooking the olive groves and cypress avenues and basks in the late afternoon sun... perfect for cocktails! Below is a large open garden. Large living room with open fireplace; eat-in kitchen; 1 double bedroom; 1 twin bedroom; bathroom with shower.

4. Casa Virginia 2 (sleeps 4 - approx 60mq)
The house faces south overlooking the olive groves and cypress avenues and basks in the late afternoon sun... perfect for cocktails! One of two apartment situated in one of the former farm worker's house which still retains its rural simplicity with white washed walls and terracotta floors. Accommodations, as are common with most Tuscan farmhouses, are located on the upper floor, as the areas used as storeroom, animal sties, and wine cantina's, were situated on the first floor. 5. Casa Marta (sleeps 6 - approx. 125mq)
An independent apartment centrally located in the heart of the estate directly across from the owners villa and the piazzale. Private access from the ground floor with an internal staircase leading to the airy spacious apartment. A living room with wood burning stove, eat-in kitchen, 2 twin bedrooms, 1 double bedroom; 2 bathrooms (one with tub, one with shower). A back door on the ground floor leads to a secluded garden with a semi-covered pergola furnished for eating, facing north-west, overlooking the woodlands.

6. Casa Massimo (sleeps 4 - approx. 110mq)
Situated at the top of the estate near the chapel and Villa, this charming well appointed apartment was originally a hive of activity as a loft for the making of Vino Santo where large wine vats still stand below. Access is gained by an external staircase to the first floor. The house stands independently overlooking the olive groves and orchard with a private garden and semi-covered terrace to the side of the house. 7. Casa Adriana (sleeps 4 - approx. 105mq)
Pool side apartment situated on the ground floor below the padronal villa. Access for special needs guests. The entrance on ground floor leads into a large open plan living room and kitchen, small hall leading to, 1 twin bedroom with bathroom (for special needs), 1 double bedroom with bathroom with shower. The apartment has a nice covered terrace furnished for eating and relaxing with a stunning view of Tuscan countryside.

8. Casa Ropoli Sopra (sleeps 4 - approx 80mq.)
One of two apartments situated on the approach to the main group overlooks the olive groves up to the main family house to the rear and the tiny hill top village of Orgia to the front. The upper apartment is one of two apartments part of the same building, a traditional rural Tuscan house, called "Casa Ropoli". Situated on the approach to the main group of houses, approximately 300m below the summit of the hill. Casa Ropoli Sopra is one of two apartments in a large farmhouse. Approached by an external staircase leading to furnished loggia, south facing overlooking woodlands and the plain below. An open plan living room-dining room with large traditional alcove fireplace and kitchenette. 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom, bathroom with bathtub.

9. Casa Ropoli Sotto (sleeps 6 - approx. 145mq)
One of two apartments situated on the approach to the main group overlooks the olive groves up to the main family house to the rear and the tiny hill top village of Orgia to the front. This ground floor apartment is one of two apartments part of the same building, a traditional rural Tuscan house, called "Casa Ropoli". Situated on the approach to the main group of houses, approximately 300m below the summit of the hill. Casa Ropoli Sotto is one of two apartments in a large farmhouse. Spread out on three levels with views overlooking the olive groves up to the main family house to the rear and the tiny hill top village of Orgia to the front. The entrance on ground floor opens into a large living room-dining room, a stone staircase leads to an eat-in kitchen and a back door opens to a semi-covered, paved terrace with the original bread and baking oven furnished for eating alfresco. A further flight leads to the second floor: half bathroom, reception room, 1 double bedroom, 2 twin bedrooms, 1 bathroom with bathtub and 1 bathroom with shower.

10. Casa Damiano (sleeps 3 - approx 65 mq.)
A cozy little house standing independently with breathtaking views of surrounding woodlands and Siena. Located opposite to Casa Ropoli. A cosy little house standing independently with breathtaking views, facing south east towards Orgia and surrounding woodlands and Siena. Open plan living room-dining room with fireplace and kitchenette; 1 double bedroom, 1 single bedroom, 1 bathroom with bathtub. Large private garden with furnished covered terrace.

11. Casa Emilio (sleeps 4 - approx. 78.90 mq) Our newest conversion was formerly home to Emilio one of the old sharecrop farmers on the estate who knew and understood the land like the palm of his hand. The house has been restored with the passion and respect for traditional Tuscan architecture, retaining the charm and character of an old farmhouse but also incorporates the creativity of Italian design today to offer a beautiful and comfortable dwelling for all seasons.

The house stands independently on the edge of the hill, a stone’s throw from the main square. It is a haven of peace and quiet with complete privacy, west facing overlooking the undulating woodlands punctuated with cypress and umbrella pine trees.

The open plan kitchen- living room has a glass paned wall with sliding doors that open into a private garden where you can catch the last rays of the sun. On the ground floor is a laundry room and half bathroom; double bedroom room with en suite bathroom. A short flight of stairs leads up to a further double bedroom with shower.

This magnificent 17th century Tuscan farmhouse is situated in beautiful woodland in the Siena hills, high on the crest of the estate of Montestigliano, only a few kilometers south of Siena and within easy reach of the Chianti area, Florence, Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano, Montalcino, Montepulciano and Pienza.   A perfect holiday retreat in the heart of Tuscany, where the rustic features of original Tuscan farmhouse architecture are combined with elegant and eclectic interiors.

The rooms have exposed beam ceilings, lime washed walls in soft colours and terracotta tiled floors, with touches of modern Italian design in the fireplaces, bathrooms and outdoor features. Steps lead down to the garden and park, and immediately below is the “infinity pool” with a travertine terrace that blends into its natural rocky environment.
