With exhilarating yet
mystical views of the tiled roofs of the old village of Maratea
and its 44 churches, the rugged goat cropped mountains of Basilicata, and the
shimmering Mediterranean,
the Locanda delle Donne Monache is the ideal haven for those who want a romantic
setting near both the town, the beach, the mountains and the Cilento National
Park. The inn is built inside a convent which
dates back to 1700 and is characterized by a retro-avant guard style.
It was formerly
dedicated to praying and meditation;
now
it greets guests in a refined manner.
After a day of sun and sea, the luxury of retiring
to the tranquility of one's room facing the old village or facing the pool
by the garden laden with bougainvillea, lemon trees and jasmine.
Behind the
Locanda, the church's white
bell tower reflects in the water.
Inside the inn, the walls of raw stone and
the refined decorations of the Locanda invoke centuries
of history and culture. Enjoy a relaxing bath in a tub sculpted in the rock or a deep sleep in a
canopied bed in the Badessa Room.
Just renovated and re-decorated with art work, furnishings
and antiques from Italy, Peru and Morocco, La Locanda is a perfect luxury venue.
It is a time and a place
for meditation, a
time and a place
of sweet oblivion and romance.
